Mark 6
This morning, Sarah Lyew takes us through Mark 6. While there are lovely stories in this chapter about Jesus walking on water and feeding thousands of people, Sarah instead helps us sift through the messiness of King Herod's life decisions.
Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.
Home Church Questions:
1. If you have favourite reality show, what is it? If you had to be on a reality show, which one are you most likely to get accepted to?
2. Read Mark 6:14-29. What stood out to you? What questions did you have?
3. Sarah gave an overview of Herod’s family life and suggested that generational sin had been passed down. How did you see that impacting Herod’s life?
4. When you hear the term "generational sin", what do you think of? How does that phrase sit with you?
5. What do you think drew Herod to seek out John the Baptist? Have you experienced moments where God was drawing you close? How did you experience that?
6. Sarah gave examples of what she saw competing for Herod’s attention. What are other things in our lives that compete with God’s invitation to draw close? How do those things impact our decisions? How does it impact our relationships with ourselves, God and others?
7. How do you think Herod’s life could have looked if he had given up everything and turned towards John’s calls to repent?
8. What are fruit that you see that point to a life chasing Jesus?
9. How does community impact your decisions? Where does that fit in your life?
This week take moments to check in with Jesus--try and be honest with Him and yourself. Are there areas that He’s trying to draw you close but you may be letting other voices compete? Is there someone in your life that you trust that you can be honest with?
