This morning, Sarah continues into chapters 2 and 3 of Mark.

Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.

Home Church Questions:

1. What TV show Character do you think of when you think of a snitch or a ruler lover? Did you like them? Why or why not?

2. Read Mark 2:23-3:6. What stood out to you?

3. How do you feel about rules? Are you someone who appreciates them? Struggles with having concrete rules? Fall in between?

4. Why do you think the Pharisees leaned into religious rules so much?

5. What are some societal rules you’ve run into that work for you but not others?

6. What are some rules/laws that lead to loving our neighbour?

7. Why do you think Mark put these stories together? What was he pulling out?

8. Why do you think Jesus got so frustrated here?

9. Read Galatians 5:13-18. What does it look like to use our freedom to love our neighbour?

10. Why is it hard to give up our freedom or being “right” to love others as we love ourselves?

This week, try to pay attention to “rules” in your life that you may hold that may not love others well, especially ones that have no significant impact on you. (eg, other people picking grain to eat on the Sabbath, not letting someone in front of you in line who has mobility issues because you got there first, your neighbour’s grass lines looking funny and you thinking unkind things about them because of it). Bring it to Jesus and ask Him to show you how to love in that moment more like Him.
